Old World: 3 Ways To Hide Tech In Your Classic Home

While the 21st century might favor tech savvy tech junkies, there will always be those who love the tried, the true and the classic. Even the most die-hard lover of classics will sometimes be lured by the ease and convenience of modern tech, however. Sometimes, you simply need something that actually wasn't even available in the era your home was built. The challenge comes in blending the old with the new, the modern with the classic. If you live in an older or classic home but want to add in a few modern features without detracting from the classic look of your older home, here are three ways to do it.

Turn off the lights

Cool blue or white lights are becoming a basic, standard feature of modern tech and appliances. Sometimes, just turning off the light or removing the bulb can minimize the high tech look and make the product or appliance blend right in with the older, classic look of your home.

Buy retro

From speakers to toasters to record players, there are a number of appliances and items that take modern tech and put it in a retro package for you. Of course, the challenge can be finding a retro look that fits in with the era of your home. Thanks to the internet of things, however, there has never been a wider variety of items available from all over the globe. Sometimes, you can hide modern tech in a retro housing, like putting a modern Bluetooth speaker in an old speaker cabinet.

Change out the cord

Modern tech and appliances are either wireless or have smooth, slim, sleek cords. Older products, however, were known for their heavier, bulkier cords. Some cords were even wrapped in fabric and provided an interesting and unusual accent in and of themselves. Most electrical cords are fairly standard and are relatively easy to change out for one that fits in more with the era of your home. Here again is where the internet of things comes in handy. You can order a wide variety of cables and cords online in a wide variety of styles, shapes, watts, volts and amperages from companies like Americord.

Whatever you are looking for, there are a wide range of ways to get what you need and blend it with the look you love. From vintage gingerbread houses to 60's mod architecture, there are a number of clever and creative ways to blend in the new with the old. Another tip is to paint modern appliances in retro colors to blend in with your vintage decor.
