Color Scheme Ideas

Color schemes take the guess work out of decorating. You may not be able to afford the houses or furniture in magazines but you can use the same interior paint color ideas for inspiration. This allows you to pay homage to designer rooms without paying the hefty price tag.

Chocolate brown is one of the trendiest wall color ideas. It works well with wood tones, such as in a kitchen. Its gender neutral while still being daring so try it in a nursery: for a boy, girl, or both. Cocoa colors still give drama to a room without becoming overwhelming. Pair it with white for a modern space. If you have a feature in your room that you hate, paint it your favorite color. That 70’s stone fireplace could be purple or red, just make sure you have a backup plan for when you move.

House color ideas can transform the exterior of where you live. Even the color of your car or your dog may clash with the paint so consider all of the surrounding areas carefully. An olive green or gold trim is a modern way to accent a brick exterior. Stay away from the dark green’s of the 90’s and go with a softer sage or a taupe with just a hint of green. Show off your personality with a colorful front door in red or purple. Plus, if you get sick of it, the door is the easiest part of the house to paint. If you want a wood door but can’t afford it try chocolate brown or a burnt sienna. High gloss paint may look more like wood stain. Keep with the style of your home when choosing a color. A craftsman should stick with earth tones while a Victorian should use blue or purple to show off the elaborate trim and moldings.

Kitchen paint color ideas are the least expensive way to makeover the most expensive room in the house. It’s possible to paint laminate countertops and vinyl floors but the chemicals are harmful and almost as costly as replacing the tile. Yellow walls with cream cabinets create a country feel. Try bright blue cabinets with a glaze for a distressed look. It will brighten up a neutral kitchen and give the cabinets importance.

Color ideas for bedrooms can make the room feel like a retreat. Look for soothing bedroom colors in soft lavenders, blues and grays. If you’re a single girl celebrate your femininity with a blush pink bedroom topped off with crisp white linens and furniture. Mirrors and silver accessories add sophistication so it doesn’t feel like a nursery.
