Have you recently had a baby then read these useful Baby Proofing Tips! As your baby learn to crawl and walk, it’s important for parents to find out how to make a baby proof home.  It is not possible to make a 100% accident-free home, so it is recommended that never leave your baby unattended, even in the baby proof home.

  • Don’t leave your baby alone on a chair, bed, or couch from where he can roll off.
  • Never smoke and don’t allow anyone to smoke around your baby.
  • Don’t carry hot water or any other hot liquids while holding your baby.
  • Always keep your water heater thermostat below 120 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Always keep your eyes on your baby while he is on changing table.
  • Always keep sharp objects such as knives, scissors, razors, and other dangerous items in a secure place.
  • Don’t keep your baby out of the sun for prolonged periods.
  • Maintain list of numbers in an emergency include a pediatrician, family doctor, and poison control numbers.
  • Never keep poisonous plants around your home.
  • Install electrical outlets to prevent placing your baby hands or little objects into it.
  • Install baby safety gates onto the entrance way of stairs and any rooms what you wouldn’t like your baby entering.
  • Always keep your medications and cleaning products in a locked cabinet, install safety locks to them.
  • Never leave your baby alone in the bathtub.  Always remove soaps and shampoos from around the edge of the bathtub.
  • Always keep your baby away from moving machinery such as lawn mowers.
  • Remove the sharp edged furniture away from your baby, use corner guards to avoid injuries.
  • Don’t carry your baby in your lap while in a car, instead use a car safety seat when traveling.
  • For the first two years of a baby, use car seats that face the rear of the vehicle.
  • Install latches on all your kitchen and bathroom drawers and cabinets.
  • Don’t keep stove knobs within your baby’s reach, make sure that they are baby proofed.
  • Make sure your baby playing under supervision.  Never let your baby play with small objects that can easily fit into baby’s throat.
  • Always keep electrical cords and strings out of reach to your baby to prevent accidental choking.
  • Don’t give your baby raw nuts and other hard foods to avoid choking hazards.
  • Never leave your baby alone with a pet, even while he is sleeping.
  • Never use a walker for your baby.  I think they are unsafe.
  • Always use drawer stoppers, so that your baby cannot pull the drawer.
  • Make sure that your toilet lids always keep closed.
  • Always place your baby on his back for sleep to reduce the risk of SIDS (sudden infant death syndrome).

Finally, most important tip, make sure that your baby is getting all of the recommended vaccines. And, you have to prepare for baby proofing while you are pregnant or planning to get pregnant.
