How to Pick out the Right Roof Rake for Roof Snow Removal

You would like to buy a roof rake to remove the snow on your roof. You are doing this in order to keep ice dams away and prevent structural damage to your home or business. But not all rooftop reprobates are created equal. Specific roof reprobates are calmer to use than others.

Selected damage the tiles, although others do not. Some let you to clear snow from your entire roof if you wish, while others limit your reach. Based on many years of providing ice dam removal and snow removal on the roof, I have some suggestions for roof rakes.

These are significant since they keep the rake blade from the surface of your roof. Without the rollers, the blade is dragged directly onto the shingles as the rake moves up and down the roof to remove the snow. This scrapes the granules off your ceiling - which is not good.

The granules provide fire resistance and protection from the sun's UV rays. Removing these granules can drastically shorten the life of your ceiling. Even worse, without these rollers or wheels, there is a good chance that you can catch the tabs of the shingles during the snow scraping process and rip whole wounds off your roof.

The bottom line is if your roof rake does not have rollers or bumpers on the sheet, at best scrape the granules from the tiles. And if your roof loses its granules, it's best to start looking for a new roof. A slight curve in the switch is good. It permits you to move the grip precipitously while raking the roof, while a straight rake only allows you to push forward and backward. A slightly folded roof rake is more versatile and easier to use.

Plastic is better than metal. The plastic is lighter in weight, and if the rake slips or if you accidentally scrape too hard, you are less likely to pebble or rub the pellets. Unless you use a wire brush to clean your teeth, you probably know how the plastic is sometimes softer and better for certain tasks. But (again) if you opt for a metal roof rake, just make sure you have plastic rollers / bumpers / rubber on the rake blade.

A telescopic slide function is useful. In statistic, a protractible roof reprobate is the only method to go if you poverty all the ice on your roof, as it allows you to reach the farthest parts of your roof, until near the peak. The straight ones are all you need if you are just removing snow from the valleys and protruding from your roof.

When you buy your roof rake, buy a pair of spare extension rods for the handle. Even if you think that your roof rake is pretty long, there may come a time when you want to be able to reach farther up. In addition, you'll want a couple of extra extensions on hand in case that part of your roof rake breaks - which, unfortunately, can materialize all the time when you're raking.
