Improving Your Cost of Living? 5 Signs it is Time to Upgrade to a New Home

Written by Posted On Wednesday, 18 October 2017 16:46

You might have loved your house the moment you saw it. It was perfect for you at the time. But your situation is different now, and you realize maybe it’s time for a bigger home. Here are some signs it’s time to move up in the world.

Your Family Is Larger

A starter home is fine for a small family. When the family starts to grow, the starter home will feel smaller. If you’ve had children, then more space is necessary. As the children get older, they’ll want their own space. And toddlers need room to play. Perhaps your elderly parents live with you now. If so, then they’ll need adequate room.

You Want a Safer Neighborhood or School

Neighborhoods constantly change. A safe area could become a high-crime area. And if you have children, you’ll be concerned about their safety and their education. An online search will help you learn about any area you’re considering. You could also contact a real estate agent to learn about the area. For instance, if you’re considering a move to Tippecanoe County in Indiana, a Coldwell Banker Shook agent would be able to help.

Your Income Increased

If you’ve had an increase in income, then a new house is possibly a great investment. You can get that big dream kitchen you’ve dreamed about and those extra bedrooms. With your new income, it’s possible to make more selective choices about your surroundings. If you can afford your dream home, then go for it.

Your Home Is Annoying

Annoyance with the size of your home is a legitimate reason to move. Are you and your pets fighting for space? Is sharing the bathroom with five people driving you nuts? If the size of your living space is causing distress, then the answer is to find a new place.

Remodeling Isn’t an Option

You’ve probably considered remodeling. Adding a second bathroom, a guest room, or a den can possibly provide the space you want. But if remodeling costs more than a new home, then moving is the better choice. Remodeling would also mean your house would be a construction site for who knows how long.

Follow Your Heart

If you’re unhappy with your home, then maybe it’s time to move on. There’s nothing wrong with doing better when you’re able. It’s time to decide if you’re ready to start shopping for your new home.
