How to Resolve a Garage Door Problem Caused by Cold Weather

Written by Posted On Sunday, 22 October 2017 23:24

A garage door that would not open in the cold is a known issue. There are several problems that could be causing this problem and most of them are easy to fix. If your door lowers just fine but fails to open in the winter, you can start troubleshooting by lifting it manually and check for any grease buildup that could cause it to stick.
If the door is hard to lift manually or if it feels heavy, then it might have broken springs. This can be corrected with the help of a garage door repair professional. But when your door raises and lowers by hand without difficulty, you may need to adjust its opener force settings.
You can prevent this issue by making sure that your garage door is properly maintained. Put a silicone-based lubricant to the roller bearings, torsion bar bearings, pulleys and springs. For roller tracks, hinges and latches, a spray solvent should be applied.
