A pool is both an asset and expense and consideration should be made before jumping into pool ownership. While a pool can provide endless entertainment, there is work and a cost factor to consider. Here are some of the pros and cons to consider before investing in a pool.

One of the highlights of owning a pool is of course that they provide countless hours of entertainment. There is a reason hotels, recreation centers, and cruises have pools and that’s because people of all ages have fun in them. Pools give us a ton of new games and provide fun spins on old ones, for example, you could have a splashing competition, play Marco Polo, or organize a game of water volleyball. As well as being able to invite neighbors and friends over to show off your latest swimwear

Pools are also a godsend in summer when you need to escape from the heat. Rather than burning through the air-con all day you can save money, and have more fun, by staying outside and playing in the pool. A pool is a massive attrition in the summer for friends and family as well as they’ll all enjoy the relief from the heat.
Besides enjoyment though, one of the best features of having a pool is it’s a great way to keep in shape. Swimming is not only good for cardio but also works out a range of muscles across the body. Aqua based exercises also have the benefit of being low to zero impact meaning its less punishing on the body than other types of exercising. Having a pool is a great way to keep fit and healthy without having to fuss with leaving the house.

Having a pool in some ways is like having a pet, they'll provide you with lots of fun, but they require consistent care. The care varies between salt and fresh water pools however in either case a cleaning and treatment regime must be followed to keep your pool usable and in good condition. If you aren't prepared to hire a pool cleaner regularly make sure to research the upkeep process to know how much time and cost will be required.
It is important to consider the safety risks involved in owning a pool, particularly if people don't know how to swim. In most places, it’s the owner’s responsibility to provide adequate fencing and locking gate around the pool to minimize drowning risks. The owners can also be responsible for who they allow to use the pool i.e. if you’re throwing a kid’s pool party you need to ensure

A well-designed pool done with the right landscaping can be both the highlight of the property and add value to the resale. The cost of installing a pool isn't converted into the value of the house so if you're the one to install it you're going to be out of pocket. It does add value to the property however and can help give your property an edge against the competition if you ever decide to resale.
If you're interested in owning a pool after reviewing all of the pros and cons then there’s one finale thing to consider: cost. It is generally a lot cheaper to buy a home with a pool already installed than to put one in yourself and as mentioned previously installation cost doesn’t equate to added value. If you review the pros and cons and are still interested in a pool you’ll no doubt have a great experience.
