5 Simple Ways To Improve Your Home & Life

Lets face it...
We all want to live a better life and we want to love the home we live in. Unfortunately so many of us have little time to tend to these issues that we continue on the path we are on until we either get burnt out or hit rock bottom where we are forced to do something about it. Creating a healthy home and life takes effort and if you are willing to take two steps back before you take your next step forward, you would be amazed at what you can accomplish.  Making positive changes in your life can have such a profound impact on your health and well-being and does not have to take an extraordinary amount of effort.

So if you have been wanting to take some form of small steps to bringing a little more joy and sunshine into your life, here are some suggestions:

1. Paint your walls soothing colors

Your home is a sanctuary. When you are in it, you should feel an overwhelming sense of peace and joy. Each room should use a color that represents the “vibe” you want. Obviously if you have an entertainment room, you would use more vibrant colors. But in places like your living room or bedroom where you will spend the most time, make sure to use colors such as

  1. Dark gray-blue
  2. Soft gray
  3. Icy blue
  4. Soft neutral green
  5. Lavendar

This way when you come home from all the noise outside, you will feel a sense of calm and peace when you enter inside your home.

2. Start your morning off with positive messages

Your mind is something that you feed just like your stomach. What you put in is what you get back. It’s important that the first ten to fifteen minutes right when you wake up you feed your mind with words (or sounds) that are uplifting. You will be amazed at how it can shift your mind and set the tone for the rest of the day.

You can listen to motivational videos on YouTube or have a playlist ready to go on your iTunes. And if you have kids, then try using earbuds so that they wont distract you. Even better, wake up before they do.

3. Create good flow in your home

Energy is real.

The Chinese have been studying it for over 5000 years and through practices like Tai Chi or Qigong, they have mastered the art of cultivating good energy (Chi).

The practice of Feng Shui, while it may sound woo woo New Age nonsense to some of you, does have an effect. Yes, there are charlatans out there quoting tens of thousands of dollars for them to come to your home and do your Feng Shui and I am in no way suggesting you work with them.

All you need to do is read a few articles online and maybe pick up a book or two. While you won’t be an expert, you will know enough on how to make some simple modifications around the home so that energy flows a bit better. If you have noticed how things feel better when you organize your home, this will just take it one step further.

4. Ask for help

At a certain point in your life, getting some outside help can be highly beneficial. While your friend or relative can give you advice, many times the feedback they provide can be a bit bias.

A professional life coach is someone who can be objective and is trained to focus on helping you achieve your goals. Sure, you can probably figure it out on your own eventually. But by working with a coach, you will speed up the process of getting to where you want to go.

5. Plant your feet in the Earth

This is going to be another one of those woo woo New Age sounding methods.

But it works.

Earthing (or Grounding) is when you put your feet (barefoot without socks or shoes) into the soil of the Earth. We are biological creatures and most of us rarely connect with the soil of the Earth which has shown to have many benefits. All you need to do is spend ten minutes a day (or every other day) and walk barefoot in your yard, at the park, or at the beach. Even if you live in NYC you can go to your local park!
