Moving? Use These Tips to Make Moving Day a Lot Easier!

Moving without stress takes planning. By making plans months in advance and making sure everything is covered, moving from one home to another will be much easier. Always include these five strategies and things will be a lot smoother.

Hire a Professional Mover and Packing Team

Hiring professional movers and packers should be at the top of your list. They have the skills to ensure all your belongings are prepared in advance, loaded with maximum efficiency, and are less likely to shift during transit. The care they put into the task will make it a lot easier to unpack and set up everything once it’s at the new place.

Never underestimate the convenience of having professional packers take care of most of the packing. They know how to treat fragile items, what it takes to make the most of the space in each container, and what items should not be packed together. They also are great at knowing how to label each container so there is no question of what needs to go to which room.

Get Rid of the Clutter

Not everything has to go to the new place with you. If there are things you haven’t used in years, why take them? Hold a yard sale to get rid of things that are in decent shape. Alternatively, donate them to a charity shop. You can even have loved ones come by and help themselves. The rest of the clutter can be put in the trash. You end up with less that needs packing, and it will certainly be easier to organize things once you are at the new place.

Every Family Member Has a Bag of Essentials

Prepare overnight bags for each family member. They should include toiletries, hair brushes, a change of clothing, and a towel. It never hurts to have a small amount of money tucked away in each bag. If any family member is on medication, that should also be kept in the individual overnight bags. Anyone who doesn’t have a smartphone can also pack a toy or something to amuse themselves when they get tired of watching the moving team work.

Food and Drink are Essential

A cooler with snacks and bottled water should be prepared and kept on hand. Remember to pack extra so you can offer some to the moving team as well. The cooler can be placed in the back yard or some other spot that won’t interfere with moving your belongings into the new place.

Have Cash For Emergencies and For Tips

One of the adults should be the keeper of enough cash to take care of any unexpected expenses. The money can be used for ordering pizza, making a quick run to a local store or pharmacy, or any other need that should arise.

Having money on hand to tip the movers is also a nice touch. While it may not be required, the tips will be appreciated. Check with the moving company in advance and find out what sort of tipping policy, if any, they have in place. This will ensure your good intentions don’t put the moving team in an awkward position.

Moving day doesn’t have to be overly stressful. Plan properly, hire a professional, and watch as things move a lot faster than you expected.
