The Magic

Since Nadine Gourkow was young, she has always been a lover of magic. With Halloween just a few short days away, a lot of people are turning to Halloween specials on television. While you could settle in with the 1966 classic It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown, a lot of people are settling in for favourites like the Harry Potter series. Many link Halloween to magic, as there are a lot of magical things that happen this time of year. What can be more magical than the leaves changing colour? While we do understand the reason for the change, many people drive for hours just to get a glimpse of fall trees and all their colour changing glory. What else is magical about this time of year? How about the celebration of All Hallows Eve? This is the time of year where it is said that our world is closest to the Otherworld. In other words, a time in the year when the spiritual and material worlds touched for a moment and a greater potential exists for magical creations. So, to better help you get into the Halloween spirit, we are going to provide you with a list of shows and reasons to watch.

The List

Once you have taken a break from binge-watching Desperate Housewives, grab the popcorn, snacks, and soda and sit down to watch some great movies and shows to get you in the Halloween spirit!

1. The Haunting of Hill House – In many shows and movies, Hill House is known as the most magical place on Earth. It is a place where spirits come to communicate with the living. This new Netflix Original delivers on many levels. One thing is for sure, it will chill you to the bone!
2. ParaNorman – This one is great if you have kids or not. It is a story about a boy that can communicate with the dead. Truth be told, it is something we all wish we could do. Who doesn’t want to know if your family members are still doing ok after they have passed from the mortal realm?
3. The Haunted Mansion – Checking in at number three is a movie that is based on the ride at Disneyland. We all know how well The Pirates of the Caribbean turned out, so you know this one is going to leave you howling at the moon!
4. Death Note – Another Netflix Original based on an anime of the same name. Essentially, a book falls from the sky and allows the possessor of the book to write the name of anyone they want dead. The show follows the life of Light Turner and his quest to rid the world of evil people.
5. Hotel Transylvania – All three of these are great movies with stars like Adam Sandler, Selina Gomez, and Andy Samberg. The story is of Dracula and his daughter playing host to all the other monsters of the world in a hotel that Dracula designed to save his daughter from the “evil humans” that killed her mom.
