As a parent you strive to ensure your child is well provided for, making sure they have nutritious food and a roof over their head - it’s part of the job description. Don’t forget a thing, not even their bedroom! See to your kiddo’s every need by stocking their bedroom with essential furnishings so their space is functional, stylish and something they're excited to spend time in!

Kids Bedroom Furniture Checklist

Here’s your comprehensive guide to outfitting your child’s bedroom so it’s a space they can proudly call their own.

A Place to Rest Their Sleepy Head

The primary function of every bedroom, of course, is a bed for sleeping. The bed is the easiest thing to remember when shopping for a bedroom suite set for your child. You’ll need a mattress, boxspring (optional), bed frame, sheets, blanket and a pillow for their little head!

There are a variety of frames to choose from single, twin, toddler, bunk or a convertible crib for youngsters. Just make sure you invest in one that is safe, sturdy and makes sense for your child.

Tip: a convertible crib is an excellent starter bed for your child as it grows with them!

Dresser

Those little people sure do have a lot of clothing! All those cute clothes will need a place to rest, so whether you have a closet or not, a dresser is a good idea. Go for a uniform look and buy a bedroom set (so everything matches) or recycle an old dresser by stripping, refinishing and painting it a fun colour!

Safety Tip: for toddlers make sure to strap the dresser to the wall, so it doesn’t fall over on them, should they climb it.

A Desk or Table

Big kid or little tyke, you’ll want some kind of flat surface for homework or creativity. Desks are fabulous if you have an older child that needs a quiet place to do homework on. While a younger child will benefit more from a children’s table, so the Playdoh gets caked onto the tabletop instead of their bedspread! Big or little, don’t forget to supply your child with a comfy chair!

A Big Shelf

Another thing you’ll notice is kids tend to acquire a lot of stuff and to keep said stuff orderly you’ll need some kind of storage system. The perfect solution is a large freestanding shelf, the one with cubby holes is perfect as it’ll grow with them. When they’re little the shelf can serve two purposes: use storage bins on the bottom to contain toys, and the upper level can be used to house storybooks! As they grow out of their toys, the cubby’s can be converted to a place to show off trophies or pictures.

Children Bedroom Basics

Give your child the gift of a beautiful bedroom by remembering everything they’ll need to create the bedroom of their dreams. After all, your child has one space in the house that is truly theirs, so fill it with practical pieces that match their unique personality that way you can rest assured that you've taken care of everything!
