Declutter Checklist For Moving

Moving can be a pretty exciting experience, but also a stressful one. The stress level goes to an all-time high if the house is very cluttered. It might seem like there is no logical place to start, but it needs to get done somehow. It can be tempting to try to just throw everything in boxes and not organize anything when making the move. Don’t fall into that trap. Instead, here is a declutter checklist for moving.

Declutter Checklist For Moving

Why Decluttering Matters

From a practical perspective, it is very important to declutter the home as much as possible before attempting to move. This is going to help you lower transportation costs, save time during the packing process and even save money. The organization is always the key to making a move as smooth as possible.

Most actually know that this is true, but the difficulty of getting things in order holds people back. Look at it as a necessity, and reap the benefits later on.

Get Rid of Stuff You Don’t Need

Every single person ends up collecting at least a few things that they no longer need in their home. Instead of taking those items to the new home, it makes sense to throw away or donate items while going through the decluttering process.

Think of moving as a way to assess every single thing you own. If there are clothes that are not worn, household items that are not used or even food that has already spoiled, it all can stay off of the moving truck. Therefore, get your boxes, and begin to declutter

Start as Early as Possible

It may not always be easy, but avoid procrastination if at all possible with the cleaning process of the home. The more time a person has, the more they can spread out the chores. It can be very overwhelming to declutter an entire home in a day or two, but starting early allows a person to go room by room. It is a much more enjoyable process because it might only take a short amount of time each day before it is all done.

Consider Selling Items

If a person is lacking motivation, money is something that can really start to get a person a little bit more interested in the clutter in the home. There are a lot of different ways to sell items these days, whether it be a traditional yard sale or an app on the phone. If something is not needed, there is a chance it has value to someone else.

Selling a few items here and there that are $20 or less might not seem like a ton of money, but it can help to cover some of the moving costs. Moving is generally a pretty costly thing to do, so every little bit helps.

Stay on Track

As long as a person stays focused and is willing to put in the work early on, the decluttering process is really not that bad. It is necessary to make the move as smoothly as possible. Don’t be afraid to part with items. Not everything is necessarily worth making the move with you.
