From the east to the west coast and everything in between, America is a beautiful country full of a lot of character. There are countless tourist destinations in states that are remarkable even for a local. This makes for almost endless options for the perfect vacation of your dreams you can take without ever stepping foot outside the country’s borders.

If you’re planning an American road trip, there are some iconic landmarks you must go out of your way to marvel at. Sure, you might feel like a cheesy tourist, but the photo ops are definitely worth it – not to mention the one-of-a-kind sights and unbelievable culture all wrapped into one.

Grand Canyon

Nestled away in Arizona is one of the world’s most famous National Parks – The Grand Canyon. This landform occupies nearly 2,000 square miles in total, making it larger than the entire state of Rhode Island. The park is full of indescribable sights you simply must see with your own eyes.

The Golden Gate Bridge

Judging from the name, this landmark may seem like any other bridge. However, this is no ordinary overpass. It’s among the largest suspension bridges and offers an unmatchable view of San Francisco. Bonus points if you ride an old-fashioned trolley car across it to really embrace the culture.

Mount Rushmore

Out of the 50 states, South Dakota admittedly may not seem like a prime destination. However, this incredible sculpture is enough to attract nearly three million visitors annually. With four founding faces of America carved into a larger than life piece of artwork, this destination is ideal for history buffs and patriotic enthusiasts alike.

The Gateway Arch

Similarly, Missouri is known for its iconic landmark located in Saint Louis. The sculpture is 630 feet tall making it the largest man-made monument in the Western Hemisphere. It was built as the centerpiece of the Jefferson Memorial, though it now serves as a symbol of the city and state it lies in.

Bourbon Street

The liveliest Mardi Gras celebration is tucked away in the French Quarter of New Orleans, Louisiana. Bourbon Street is famous for its festive beads and delicious beignets, so it’s advisable to arrive with an empty stomach.

Bourbon Street is also home to the most viewed surveillance camera in the states with over 84 million views. So be careful what you do when on Bourbon Street because you never know who may be watching you!

Statue of Liberty

Of course, no list would be complete without one of the most well-known symbols of America – the Statue of Liberty. Everyone has heard the story of France’s peace offering, but have you ever seen the gift with your own eyes? It’s probably larger than what you envisioned, and if you’re up for the 350+ steps climb, the view of the Big Apple from the top is unlike any other.

With all this in mind, if you’re looking to travel the globe, don’t count America out. There are new sights and cultures to explore without ever leaving the country, which could definitely save some serious cash when it comes to booking flights and hotels. No matter where your ventures take you, be sure to take tons of photos and bask in the marvelous creations.
