Spread the Word—How to Advertise the Homes You're Selling

Whether you’re selling a single home or looking to improve the success of your real estate listings, try these tips to get your properties in front of more buyers.

Try the Front Yard Sign

Never underestimate the power of a front yard “for sale” sign. This classic real estate tool is a surefire way to get calls about your home. Many home buyers travel through neighborhoods looking for available properties.

Put your sign near the street. Make sure it’s not blocked by trees, bushes, mailboxes, or other obstructions. Choose a sign with a visible phone number; buyers may only have a moment to write the information down.

Make Online Profiles

Sites like Zillow, Trulia, and Realtor.com are the best ways to reach modern buyers. Make profiles on all of these sites. Remember to include the same price on all listings; you don’t want buyers to be confused.

Pay careful attention to the photos you use and the descriptions you write. Fill out every available part of the profile.

Some of these sites offer paid advertising campaigns to sell your listing faster. Once you like the way your profile looks, consider this option; for a few dollars, you’ll get your home in front of a far larger audience.

List in Local Magazines

Many local publications have a section dedicated to finding a new home or reputable real estate office. Buyers check these publications when they visit an area where they might like to live.

Call local magazines and ask about including your home in their listings. Many publications also have a website or email newsletter to help reach a wider audience. You might need to pay a small fee, but you’ll be surprised at the number of calls you get.

Make a Landing Page

A landing page is a single-page website used to sell products or services. You can use a landing page to publish photos of the house, post contact information, and share the listing on social media. Choose a link that’s easy to remember and share with potential buyers.

Treat your landing page with significant attention to detail. Include as much information as possible about the house and the surrounding area. There are many different options to build your own landing page; choose one that’s easy to use and update.

While you’re in the page builder, remember to fill out your page’s meta-information. The meta-title, description, and image will show up in search results and whenever the page is shared on social media. This will be a buyer’s first impression of the home, so make sure it looks good.

Keep track of everywhere that you list your home. When it finally sells, remember to contact each place and remove the listing. You don’t want to keep receiving calls months after the deal has closed.
