Introduction

You may have witnessed a few homes with unique decor and style that just speaks to you. Nothing is out of place and everything is there for a purpose. It gives those homes a grand look and ambiance unlike any other. According to Mark Roemer, you can also style your home to give it that expensive look. It’s not really about the cash in your wallet, but the choices you make. Let’s look at some of those tricks:

The Tips

1. Stick to a style - If you have pillows from IKEA, sofa from Target, and a rug from Walmart then it isn’t necessary that they are going to complement each other. Big chains like Target and IKEA often make their products to complement each other and create an ecosystem of coherent style. So, when you choose from a single style from any of these stores, you should stick with it.

You can also take the tougher route. Stick to a palette and hunt through various stores that fit that palette. Take a picture of the sofa, rug, art pieces, pillows, and other home decor items you want to buy. Try to imagine them together in your apartment. Once you have made a list of items that are coherent with each other, go through the purchase.

2. Make frame purchases in bulk - Art on walls, under the stairs, or even in the kitchen can convey a lot about you to your guests. It lets you personalize a house into a home. However, with matching frames, all the art pieces, children’s work, and museum postcards come together to create a gallery in your home. The frames don’t need to be expensive. Just buy them in bulk so that you can achieve that ‘gallery’ look.

3. Don’t miss out the details - You may have a vinyl origami that is very close to your heart. Or, a sculpture made of matchsticks. However, numerous interesting art pieces will go forward to confuse your guests and charge them up with unending questions.

Instead, you can group your fascinating pieces with other things that can convey a story. For instance, a matchstick sculpture sitting over a ceramic tile with a souvenir postcard of a country and volcanic rock beside it can tell your guests a lot behind the story of the sculpture. Add details to your groupings to convey those stories.

4. Minimalism never fails - Buying fewer things always ends up being cheaper on your pocket and allows you to save your sweet disposable income. Fortunately, the current trend seems to be minimalism. People are fonder of cleaner and clutter-free approach. Whether it is your work desk or your home.

Conclusion

Mark Roemer suggests that whenever you style your home, always aim to keep things “intentional”. All the above tips would help you to achieve that and give an impression of luxury to your guests. When everything is intentional and at the right place, your home just seems more expensive.
