San Antonio ISD Schools Earn Distinctions in 2015 Accountability Ratings

The Texas Education Agency (TEA) has released the 2015 accountability ratings for more than 8,600 schools across Texas, including San Antonio ISD.

The accountability ratings released by the TEA for districts and all schools across Texas are based on the new State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR) tests and other key indicators.

Distinction Designations are awarded to schools based on student performance and achievement indicators relative to a group of 40 schools of the same size, type, and student demographics. Schools that receive an accountability rating of “Met Standard” may also receive distinction designations.

There are 7 possible distinction designations that can be earned by campuses. These are:

  • Academic Achievement in Reading/English Language Arts;

  • Academic Achievement in Mathematics;

  • Academic Achievement in Science;

  • Academic Achievement in Social Studies;

  • Top 25 Percent: Student Progress;

  • Top 25 Percent: Closing Performance Gaps; and

  • Postsecondary Readiness.

The ratings are updated on August of each year.

According to Commissioner of Education Michael Williams,  “Earning any type of distinction under the state accountability system is commendable and should be a source of pride in a community. Achieving all seven distinctions reflects extraordinary work taking place on a campus while affirming a strong commitment to students.”

Out of the 4,388 campuses in Texas that achieved the “Met Standard” rating and earned some type of distinction designation, only 153 campuses earned all 7 distinction designations and one of them is in the San Antonio ISD - The Young Women’s Leadership Academy.

Many other campuses in the San Antonio ISD earned several distinction designations, as well as a “Met Standard” rating.
