The heart of a home lies in the kitchen. This is where you prepare meals for your family, friends and acquaintances. As a hive of activity, the sink and the cookers suffer the most. Everyone will use the sink and the dishwasher and sink, you experience plumbing problems. There are different issues that may arise in your kitchen and you may not have the time to wait for plumbers. Other times, your plumbing repairs could be too costly. To get through such situations, the following tricks will suffice:

1.     Leaking faucets

This is common and when getting new kitchen faucets, you should always buy spare parts for the faucets and extra faucets for dark days. Since the faucets come with manuals, you can disassemble and replace parts when you have leaks. Loose faucet parts are responsible for most leaks.

2.     Improper flow of water through the faucet

The aerator could be malfunctioning or be blocked with mineral buildup; lime scale.

Replacement of the aerator can be done simply or you can unscrew the faucet, clean the aerator then replace it.

3.     Leaky dishwasher

This may be as a result of appliance faultiness or an issue with plumbing. You may not have to call any Allen plumber if you understand the problems. Otherwise it may be necessary.

Use of too much detergent or incorrect loading of dishes could be the cause of the leak. In other cases, the hose could be loose resulting in the leak. Re-affixing the hose tightly will solve this as well as using less dish washing detergent and loading dishes correctly.  Persistence of the problem warrants a technician’s help. This is where the plumber or the appliance repairs are necessary.

4.     Noisy dishwasher

The cause of this may be solid debris. Check for loose silverware or bones in the dishwasher. You should always follow the machine’s user manual on loading. Clattering sounds could indicate faulty valves that should be replaced.

5.     Slow draining sink

Every household experiences this. Despite several attempts with the plunger, it persists. You can try using baking powder and vinegar. Pour these into the drain then cover the drain for some time. After about 30 minutes, you should remove the cover and pour hot boiling water in the drain, vinegar and baking powder will dissolve the grease and fats, the how water will wash these away. You should pour off as much hot water as possible or repeat the whole process till the draining is normal.

6.     Garbage disposal

This is a main cause of blockages in the drainage systems. You should have enough garbage disposal units to keep all trash. Peels, grease and bones may land on the sink and should be removed in time to prevent other issues.

7.     Less or lack of hot water

Your home system may have a small water heating system especially after a home/ kitchen renovation. You should consider replacing the hot water system. In other cases, the control valve or the thermocouple may be faulty resulting in the issue.  You should consider replacing either.

In conclusion, due to the activities taking place in kitchens, these problems always arise and they can be fixed without a plumber’s help if uncomplicated. However, you may have to call in a plumber if the problem persists.
