Types of Driveway Types of Driveway

Your driveway is likely to be one of the main focal points of your home. As such, it is vital that you choose a drive that suits your home and budget. Most driveways last several decades, so it is also important that you select a drive which you like, as you will be using it for many years to come.

There are a number of different driveways available, and for some inspiration and guidance, check here for some driveway ideas. The most popular driveway options include:

Gravel Driveways – Gravel driveways look great, and can also be affordable. They also have a proven history of decreasing burglary, as the audible sounds made when walking on gravel makes these drives unattractive to criminals. They are available in a range of colours, as well as sizes. They do require a higher level of maintenance, as weeds can grow through the gravel and the stones can often end up on your grass or in your garden.

Concrete Driveways – Concrete has been used to create driveways for a considerable amount of time. Recently, it has become even more popular thanks to pattern imprinted concrete driveways. This method makes the concrete drive more attractive, as it used colours and patterns. Concrete driveways are extremely hard wearing, and last a considerable amount of time, even with heavy weight loads, such as a vehicles and trucks.

Tarmac Driveways – Tarmac and asphalt are popular road surfaces, which make them well suited for driveways. They are extremely tough and long-lasting, and require little maintenance. Unfortunately, petrol and oil disintegrate tarmac surfaces, which can cause holes to develop, if a leaking car or motorbike sits on the drive. Repairs to tarmac surfaces can be difficult, and are normally unsightly.

Block Paved Driveways – This style of driveway is extremely popular, and is also regarded as one of the most attractive forms of driveway. They can last for a long time, but do require ongoing maintenance, such as weeding and sealing, to ensure their longevity. Block paving has the benefit of being able to replace a single damaged paver, which is quick and is often not noticeable. They are available in a range of different colours and designs.

You can increase the security and appeal of your drive with driveway gates. Gates are available in a range of different sizes, colours and shapes, to suit any style. The most common types of driveway gates are normally made from either wood or metal. For convenience, automated gates can also be installed, however these are often far more expensive than manually opened gates.
