Moving Furniture Safely - Avoid Injuries And Damage

There are safe ways when furniture moving, and then there are less safe means to moving furniture that can cause injury or damage. Knowing how to move furniture safely is really useful when moving house, or even if just rearranging rooms. Movers have to move around heavy pieces of furniture and moving boxes each and every day so using the right techniques is vital. It’s all in the safety and all in the approach you use for the job. There is no secret in doing it, simply a good amount of effort put into the safe removals. You can apply that in the latter and you will have a good time moving home without any fear that something might happen to the furniture.

Perhaps the first tip for avoiding injuries and damage is to not try to move too much furniture at the same time. If a piece of furniture is too heavy for a single mover to move on their own then at least two people will need to move it working together as a team. Some objects like sofas or larger wardrobes are going to be heavier than other items so have at least two people moving them from the start.

Trying to move an item that is too heavy individually increases the risk of injury, or damaging that item, plus anything else that happens to be in the way. The art of successful domestic removals is to only move heavy furniture in tandem with each other. If an extra person is not immediately available move lighter items first then go back to the bulkier or heavier pieces last.

Another way to move would be the disassembly of the furniture at question. Moving the piece in… well, pieces… will be much easier and better to stack in the removal van. That way there is a minimal risk of getting anything damaged and the move will go down perfectly. All it takes after that is some skill with the reassembly. You can do that much, right?

Also consider ways of making furniture easier or lighter to use. For instance make sure that books are taken off bookshelves, and that clothes are removed from wardrobes or chest of drawers. Items that fall out of furniture can break these pieces, or harm the removers. If it is not possible to remove such things before moving the furniture then tape up doors and drawers to reduce the risk of items falling out during the process of moving everything.

It’s all much simpler than it seems. Once you have the hang of it, it only takes some effort to move it. Make sure you use proper equipment, such as dollies and straps, and everything will go down smooth.
