The Best Communities in the South for Your Family to Move to

Folks in the South love God, sweet tea and the SEC. If you are looking to join them, there are many great places to choose from. Here are five of our favorites.

Flora, Mississippi

Nestled between rolling hills and farmland, Flora covers just 3.4 square miles about 30 minutes north of the state capital. The Mississippi Petrified Forest is located in Flora and is the only petrified forest in the Eastern United States. Historic Main Street in Flora is home to great food, friendly people and a rich past. It's been rumored that Flora beckons to visitors from all over! Take one look, and you'll see why.

Peachtree City, Georgia

Are you fed up with traffic and parking? Then Peachtree City, Georgia might be the right place for you. Peachtree is known for its affinity for golf carts, and you can reach almost anywhere in the city via golf cart. There are almost 100 miles of golf cart paths through the city, and even the police patrol in these unique cars! Having been ranked as one of the top 100 places to live in the United States, it is definitely a great place for any family—especially since it has also been ranked as Georgia’s number one “Best Place to Raise Kids”.

Sea Pines, South Carolina

Sea Pines has a history dating back to the 1800's, and even earlier if you visit the prehistoric Indian Shell Ring. Locals tend to enjoy spending their time at the nearby beach, visiting the Sea Pines forest Preserve and golfing—all wonderful things to do as a family. According to Sea Pines Real Estate - The Cottage Group, there are a lot of really good dining, shopping and entertainment options there too—which is definitely something to consider if your family is the type that likes to go out and about occasionally.

Chattanooga, Tennessee

Chattanooga has been self-proclaimed the "best town ever" for good reason. This charming city is home to a number of attractions that can keep you and your kids entertained for years to come. One of these attractions is Lookout Mountain. Civil War battles took place there, which could be really interesting to learn about, and nearby hikes to discover. Other things that are really fun to do there are to see the waterfall and go up the mountain via the Incline Railway.

Orange Beach, Alabama

Many people know Orange Beach for its beaches and tourism, but it's also a wonderful place to live. Although it has a reputation of being a good place to spot dolphins and kayak, it also has a lot of other non-touristy opportunities. Locals there really enjoy visiting the Islands of Perdido Pass and hiking the Hugh S. Branyon Backcountry Trail, which is also a great place to go biking and is paved as well.

Regardless of which destination you choose, living in the South can be a rewarding experience. Root for your favorite SEC football team, sip some sweet tea, and enjoy God's beauty in any one of these five amazing communities.
