Planning to go out for a trip with family or friends? If Yes! Then don't forget to put your mail on hold because one of the biggest carrier agency, USPS offers the facility of hold mail for it's customers.

Although, there are so many people who ask their neighbors to pick up their mail on time but still you should put mail on hold using the USPS hold mail service because in case the neighbor forgets to pick up mail on time then they may lose, the lost mail may contain some important document or they may get soaked in rain so it's always the best to put mail on hold using the free hold mail service.

But before submitting the hold mail request you should confirm the end date of hold mail service because U.S Postal Service will only hold your mail from 3 to 30 days for free and after that premium options will be there for you. Customers can submit the request 1 day before going for the vacations because it takes minimum 1 day to process your request if request submitted over the phone or at post office.

Now comes the time to choose the method to put mail on hold. U.S postal service offers three ways to hold mail and those are online, at post office and over phone. Choose any of these according to your convenience.

Those who want to do this online must visit the official site of USPS – www.usps.com and click on the Hold Mail option under "Track & Manage" category. Now you will see some required blank fields. In these fields fill out the required information like your name, address, contact number etc and after that click on Check Availability option.

This way USPS tracking will find out weather hold mail service is available for your address or not. If it shows that online hold mail requests are not available for your address then you can try another address or visit the local post office. Local post office may help you in that but before visiting their check the post office hours to find out weather the post office is open or not.

If it shows Available then following blank fields will be enabled for you. Now here you can fill the details according to you. Fill start and end date of the trip, select the method to receive the accumulated mail and you can also add some instructions. After filling all the information just click on the Schedule Hold Mail option and you are done.

That was the way to submit the request online but hold down! It's not the end yet because there are two other methods are remaining over phone and at post office.

Call at USPS customer service number 1-800-ASK-USPS (1-800-275-8777) and give the customer representative the required details and he/she will hold your mail. At last, visit the nearest post office to submit the hold mail request. At post office, fill out the PS Form 8076 and hand over it to the clerk.

These were the three ways to hold mail. After the ending date, USPS will start delivering your mail and also deliver your accumulated mail but you can pick them yourself if you selected the option to pick up the accumulated mail yourself while submitting the request. It's cool, isn't it?
