Real Estate Marketing: 7 Lies That Sabotage Your Success

Written by Dr. Maya Bailey Posted On Wednesday, 02 October 2013 14:07

Have you ever suspected that you may be sabotaging your own success?

You should know that this is a subconscious process and you will not be aware of it consciously.

Look for the signs and signals in the traces that it leaves:

  • Do you find yourself procrastinating when you really don't want to?
  • You feel sometimes you have a conflict about success?
  • You always seem to fall short of your financial goals?
  • Have you noticed that you create money and then lose it only to start back up again?
  • Does it feel like you have one foot on the gas and one foot on the brake?

Subconscious Self-Limiting Beliefs hold you back. The tricky thing is that you don't know that it's happening. You just know that you aren't succeeding and are getting discouraged over and over again.

Lie #1: The belief that you can't succeed

At some time or another you've probably had the belief "I can't succeed".

Here are some variations of this belief:

  • "I don't have what it takes."
  • "I don't know enough."
  • "I seem to lack what others have."
  • "I can never be good at prospecting."
  • "I know what I should be doing; I'm just not doing it."

If you think you can succeed, you will. If you don't think you can succeed, then it will become a self-fulfilling prophecy and you won't. In order for you to succeed, you need to reprogram your subconscious mind.

Here are some steps you can take:

  • Pay attention to your inner self talk.
  • When you notice that it is negative, change it around.
  • Any thoughts of self-doubt about yourself should be changed to new Empowering Beliefs, such as:
  • "I release need to compare myself to others."
  • "I have all that it takes to succeed."
  • "I release all self-limiting beliefs."
  • "I only choose to believe positive thoughts about myself."

What you'll notice as a result of installing these new beliefs and choosing to believe them over the old beliefs, is that your confidence grows.

Lie #2: "I don't need to prospect; people should be sending me referrals"

If you find yourself avoiding prospecting, you are not alone and it's not your fault. Most likely you are carrying around many self-limiting beliefs that oppose prospecting. Until you release and reprogram those beliefs, that will be like extra baggage to keep you from moving forward.

Here is an example of some of the beliefs that people have in the subconscious mind:

  • If I prospect I am bothering people.
  • People don't want to hear from me.
  • If I prospect I will be rejected.
  • I don't know what to say.

Please remember that these are not facts, these are just beliefs and beliefs can be changed.

Lie #3: "I need to put other people's needs before my own", which translates into "I need to accommodate to my clients' schedules."

When you accommodate to your client schedules, what happens?

1. You have no time to yourself.
2. You can't take a day off.
3. You feel like you're depriving your family every time.
4. You become resentful of your clients.
5. Eventually, you burn out.

Underneath the belief you have to put other people's needs before your own there are hidden self-limiting beliefs that promote this idea, such as:

  • "Other people are more important than me."
  • "I'm the one responsible for others' feelings and needs."
  • "It's my job to be the caretaker."

When you hold on to the belief that you are the "caretaker", then your experiences may generate many negative thoughts, such as:

1. "Why do people push me around?"
2. "Why do people depend on me to do all the work?"
3. "Why do you feel responsible for other people's feelings and lives"
4. "Why can't I be successful and still have a life?"

Lie #4: "If I am successful, I will pay a price"

Why do you struggle with yourself? You may not be in touch with the fears of your subconscious mind. But if you look deeper, you'll probably find beliefs that block you from success, such as:

1. If I succeed I will have to work very hard, struggle and sacrifice.
2. Unsuccessful people may be jealous of me.
3. If I am successful, I won't have time for myself, my friends or my family.
4. If I am successful, I will change and become too materialistic.

Here are some ideas that will help you reveal your beliefs about success:

1. What did you observe about your parents? How many hours did they put into their work each day? Do you perceive your father as stressed out or unavailable when he came home from work? Were they constantly busy?
2. Did they believe that success meant working very hard, struggling and sacrificing?
3. When you saw your parents striving for success, did it look like it was a long arduous effort?
4. Were you told not to stand out too much? Were you disapproved of if you tried to shine?

Please keep in mind that your parents did not have the concept of working smarter than harder. If you think that success means you have to work very hard, then you will play that out in your life.

By going through the process of mindset coaching, you will end up with Pro Success Beliefs, such as:

1. I'm so happy and grateful that I work smarter not harder.
2. I attract people who celebrate my success.
3. I create a balanced personal and professional life.
4. By being successful, I'm able to give back fully to the community.
