Coldwell Banker Bain | Seal Launches Home From Service Program for Veterans

Written by Posted On Friday, 29 April 2016 17:14

Coldwell Banker Bain | Seal, a leading provider of real estate brokerage services in the Pacific Northwest, is proud to announce the launch of a new program designed to put former and reserve military personnel on the road to a successful career in real estate.

CB Bain | Seal’s Home from Service program honors retired and service men and women and recognizes the highly sought-after, marketable skills they’ve acquired while in the military. Now, as civilians, they have an opportunity to put their excellent leadership, problem-solving, time management and organizational abilities to use in a rewarding career where they can own their own business, help others to realize their dream of home ownership, and enjoy the benefit of unlimited earning potential.

CB Bain | Seal has many successful veterans within the company in both real estate broker and management roles. “Home from Service is a natural extension that recognizes their contributions and those of qualified veterans who have yet to discover the many rewards of a career in real estate,” says Mike Winkler, a CB Bain principal managing broker and himself a U.S. Army vet. “In fact, we are proud that many veteran and non-veteran CB Bain | Seal team members have long supported veteran causes through the Veterans Administration including serving as board members of the Friends of the VA Puget Sound Fisher House, and other meaningful veteran service organizations.”

Through Home from Service, CB Bain | Seal will offer extensive education and training, one-on-one mentoring and financial support to qualified non-active military veterans. The program is open to surviving spouses and spouses of service-connected disabled veterans too. CB Bain | Seal knows no better way to show its gratitude and support for those who’ve chosen to serve their country than with an opportunity to succeed in a rewarding, post-military career.

“We’re excited to launch this career-development program that exemplifies and extends one of our company’s key missions – education,” says COO and President Mike Grady. “To be able to tap the pool of talented individuals who leave the military trained with a wealth of skills that translate beautifully into what we do, and to be able to offer them a path to reach new goals is just an awesome feeling. We couldn’t be more proud to offer this program.”

Qualified candidates will be required to complete pre-licensing coursework, pass a state real estate exam and follow up with structured sales training provided in their home branch. The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) will cover the pre-licensing coursework for qualifying veterans and CB Bain | Seal will cover the first year of Realtor® association dues, multiple listing service membership as well as some start-up supplies. As an added bonus, the company will provide each participant with a sponsor, also a veteran, to act as a resource to help with the transition to a career in real estate.

About the Veterans Who Have Recently Joined the Company

Mark Browning: Mark is a resident of Lake Oswego and is retiring from the U.S. Army after 23 years of distinguished service. He is excited to join Coldwell Banker Seal’s Lake Oswego office and put the interpersonal skills he has gained from his service, particularly over the past few years as an Army recruiting and retention specialist, to work in the real estate realm. Says David Sly, CB Seal Lake Oswego’s Principal Managing Broker “Mark’s skills in interacting with civilians, ‘selling’ a military career, will serve him well in real estate.”

Luis Garibay: Luis is a proud soldier in the Oregon Army National Guard who has served in a variety of sales positions in the insurance, banking and telecom industries. Said Mark Bixel, Principal Managing Broker for the CB Seal Oregon City office, “We were so impressed with Luis’ demeanor and focus… he has already proven to be very task oriented, something a military background brings to the table. We’re excited about his potential.”

Ron (Mac) McDowell: Mac is a longtime Portland-area resident with a passion for the area that is well known among his friends. Retiring in 2009 from the U.S. Air Force, he transitioned to the burgeoning sustainability and residential solar energy industry and helped to develop renewable energy programs throughout the Northwest region. For the past five years he has served as president and executive director of Solar Oregon, a 501(c)3 non-profit advocacy organization that provides outreach and education on solar technology and its applications. “We are excited to see how Mac takes his passion for the community and sustainability and integrates it into a real estate practice,” said David Sly, Principal Manager Broker of CB Seal’s Lake Oswego office.

Mitchell Stephens: Mitchell joined the Army in 2008 right after high school, and has served three tours with Special Forces to Iraq and Afghanistan. He is currently a team sergeant (noncommissioned officer). Mitchell’s service is so distinguished he has been awarded 13 medals, stars, badges and ribbons. Mark Bixel, CB Seal Oregon City’s Principal Managing Broker, noted, “We are so honored to have Mitchell join our office. His leadership skills and the discipline they exhibit will surely serve him well in this new career.”
