When To Buy Or Rent When Combining Hobbies And Vacations

What better way to enjoy your vacation than bring your favorite activities with you? Maybe you like to draw, so you bring a sketchbook; or you're a musician, so you bring your guitar; or maybe you love to knit, so you make sure to pack your yarn and knitting needles.

But some hobbies are a little bulkier than yarn. When you love to golf, it's probably unrealistic to pack your golf clubs. The question then becomes what equipment do you haul along and what should you rent on site in order to save yourself some money and hassle? Here are a few examples that might help you decide.

Golfing in Paradise

Hawaii has long been one of the most popular vacation spots for many obvious reasons. But what many people don’t realize is that it also has some of the most beautiful and unique golf courses in the country like Kauai Lagoons. Unfortunately the cost to ship or transport your clubs can be astronomical, especially if you are only going for a short trip. Places like Maui Club Rentals offer a variety of clubs and equipment at affordable prices, as well as discounted tee times at certain courses and even lessons if you want to hone your skills.

Bikes for Big Boys (and Girls)

You need a vacation—you deserve a vacation—but not being able to ride around on your beautiful and beloved Harley will be rough, especially if you're heading out for a long getaway. Renting a bike is always an option, but not always a good one, as rentals can be pricey and availability of rentals is never guaranteed. The best option here is to have your luggage shipped to your destination and take an extra day or two and ride wherever it is you are headed. The scenic route is more interesting anyway!

If you can't ride to your destination, book your rental as far in advance as possible; doing so might save you some money and with your rental comes a helmet and raingear.

Hunting in Style

When going on an extended hunting trip, having the right equipment can help make it a pleasant adventure with your favorite people. As the days wear on, your campground becomes less and less like a place you want to return to after a long day of hiking and tracking your prey. Enjoying the wilderness is great, but we're not all hardcore camping experts and some electricity would be nice (e.g. heating side dishes to go with the buck you bagged or playing music without batteries). How? Renting a portable generator from a place like Sunbelt Rentals can make the peace and beauty of the outdoors a little more comfortable.

Exploring the Deep Blue

Cancun and nearby islands boast some of the most incredible Mayan ruins on Earth, but what many people don’t know is that it is also home to one of the top scuba diving locations in the world. And while you can always rent any and all of the equipment you may need, if you plan on making a habit of scuba diving, purchasing personal items like masks, fins and wet suits from Dive Pro can really pay off in the long run. The big stuff like tanks and regulators can also be rented on-site.

Whatever your hobby and wherever your vacation destination, make sure you do your research to find out what the best option is when considering buying versus renting the required gear in order to do what you want, where you want. And always remember to have fun!
