How To Get Excited About Pantone's Socially Motivated 2017 Color Of The Year

Written by Jaymi Naciri Posted On Sunday, 18 December 2016 06:30

The Pantone Color Institute chooses a new color each year that they predict will drive fashion and interior design trends, among other things. This year's color: Greenery. And while it may sound like something that acts as filler when you order a vase full of roses, it's actually a light, fresh color that may just revive your space - and your attitude.

That's because, this year, Pantone chose a shade that represents more than actual pigment.

"Greenery bursts forth in 2017 to provide us with the reassurance we yearn for amid a tumultuous social and political environment," said Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director of the Pantone Color Institute, in their Color of the Year release. "Satisfying our growing desire to rejuvenate and revitalize, Greenery symbolizes the reconnection we seek with nature, one another and a larger purpose."

Exactly how much political strife can be read between those lines is a matter of opinion. Vogue said, "The consensus seems to be the choice is more about hope. The Chicago Tribune sees the potential for a call to action: "Don't get us wrong, a zesty yellow-green would also look great in the realm of dishware, throw pillows and upholstery. But in 2017, it may also be wise to try embodying Pantone's color choice," they said.

Either way, expect to see the color, and green in general as part of a larger trend, everywhere in the coming year. Here are a few ways to use it.

On the walls

A feature wall of Greenery would be a standout. Or, go with a unique wall treatment that brings depth to the space.

Room Décor Ideas

In the front

Greenery makes a front door pop. And a green door is associated with health, safety, tranquility, and harmony, as well as money and wealth - all great things!

On a table

The Leo Table Lamp is available in an array of different colors, but we love the freshness of the Greenery hue here, especially when fashioned in glass.

For the table

How fun is this table set, in graduated hues that include Greenery? It's a great way to weave the color into your home without making a huge statement.

On the ceiling

We can always get behind a killer chandelier. If this Celeste Sphere design doesn't capture the spirit of "Greenery," well, we just don't know what does.
