9 Ways Back To School Improves Your Life

Written by Jaymi Naciri Posted On Sunday, 17 August 2014 13:12

You couldn't wait until your kids got out of school. Hallelujah for lazy days! Except you probably forgot about just how lazy those days are, right? Not for you. No one gave YOU a summer break. But those kids…wow, can they lounge!  And we're speaking from close, personal, very recent experience.

Thankfully, back to school for them means back to normalcy for you in 9 great ways.

1. Back to organization

We can't be the only ones who stopped filing bills or discarding junk mail when July rolled around. The cupboard is bare, the laundry pile is an embarrassment, and you haven't seen two matching socks since the dawn of the last day of school. How is a vacation for them end up in spring cleaning in fall and a whole-house overhaul for you? That all ends soon, and these home organization tips may be able to help.

2. Back to a clean house

You probably can't expect your kids' shoes and backpacks to make it into their rooms. Not everyday, anyway. But the water bottles piling up, the always-missing remote control, the weird smells that seem to be getting worse the deeper we get into the summer…that has the potential to straighten itself out.

3. Back to normal sleep patterns

It's not cool for your teenager to sleep until noon when you have to get up for work at the crack of dawn. EVERY SINGLE DAY. Not cool at all.

4. Back to normal eating patterns

Are we the only ones who return home from work to find that the kids ate 10 granola bars and an entire box of cereal and nothing else? Can't wait for that to be over. Here are some back to school lunch ideas.

5. Back to learning

Not that SpongeBob Squarepants isn't deeply illuminating.

6. Back to sanity

Think you're the only one going stir crazy with kids who can't fathom how lucky they are that they can literally do nothing day after day without being fired or shamed? Oh how wrong you are. Trust us.

7. Back to chores

Remember chores? Awww…the good old days. And by good old days, we mean the beginning of the summer. Waaaaayyyyy back then we had grandiose ideas about kids picking up after themselves and spraying stuff and wiping stuff down and actually exerting more energy than it takes to change the channel or send a text. Now we're just happy when the living room is tidy enough that we don't have to hide behind the couch and pretend we're not home when someone knocks on the door.

8. Back to goals

You know, goals. Those things you were striving for before summer crazy took over and the only goal left was having enough clean towels to provide to the kids when they left for the pool.

9. Back to sweaters

We know, sweater weather is still a few months away. But, frankly, the thought of wearing anything with a sleeve just makes us giddy.
