How Did A Massachusetts Builder Create An Earthquake-Proof Orphanage In Haiti?

Along with Real Estate, Lillian Montalto, of Lillian Montalto Signature Properties, is highly involved with multiple Fundraising Organizations, one of which is the Home Builders & Remodelers Association of Massachusetts, who is coming together to support a remarkable cause.

In 2010, Len & Cherylann Gengel of Rutland, Massachusetts, suffered the tragic loss of their vibrant 19-year-old daughter, Britney, in a devastating earthquake in Haiti while she was serving as an Aide with Feed the Poor. Britney, moved by her experience while there, had shared her dreams of returning to Haiti to build an orphanage of her own. To keep their daughter's dream alive, her parents returned to Haiti in 2011 to build Britney’s Orphanage.

In just three years, how did Len and Cherylann build this amazing facility? How do you secure land in Haiti; how do you design a building for a country with poor infrastructure and frequent natural disasters?

How do you decide what materials to use? How do you get materials safely to the site? How do you hire labor and keep the facility secure during construction?

BeLikeBrit is a US registered, 501(c)3 nonprofit organization which operates a 19,000 square foot orphanage in Grand Goave, Haiti, and has found meaning in the tragedy. Now, there are 35 orphans living there and they plan to adopt 31 more very soon!

On November 4th, 2013, The Home Builders & Remodelers Association of Massachusetts invites the community and the nation to help carry on the dream of Britney Gengel by joining them at the Andover Country Club, located at 60 Canterbury Street, in Andover, MA. All forms of support are welcomed!
