New Strategies for Successful Superstars
by Joeann Fossland

The successful always seem to stay a step ahead of the rest because they are thinking differently than everyone else. Instead of studying and dissecting information about what has worked for others or in the past, successful agents are always creating new ways of serving their customers, marketing themselves and having FUN doing what they are doing. Many times they do things that don't work, but that doesn't stop them from trying something else. In reality, just being in ACTION stirs up the cosmic dust and makes a person attractive (as in the dynamic of attracting business to you). They aren't afraid to step out on the skinny branches and are sometimes widly successful because they do. Letting go of old thinking and embracing the new is a characteristic of the ones who are superstars.

Superstar Strategies for 2000:

Old: Goal Oriented

NEW: Strategy Oriented

Strategies are a broad view that is big, creative and responsive to change. Goals narrow and restrict. You miss opportunities with tightly defined goals.

Old: Lots of Goals

NEW: Fewer, More Focused Goals

Our natural entrepreneurial spirits want to do everything. And do it all right now! This dissipates results. Choose only 3 areas at a time to focus your attention on. Do each of these three100% before adding new areas. In martial arts, the way to survive when being attacked by many is to focus 100% of you attention on ONE and then the next, not to try to handle them all at once.

Old: Broad Focus

NEW: Deep Focus

Know your niche-double your net. Re examine your target markets. Without a focus in certain markets where you can become the guru- you are a commodity and will find yourself competing on price. Don't go there. Become a BIG fish in a small pond. Become THE Expert in historical properties, renovating a certain type home, ranches, view lots, home offices. What is a fit for your loves and skills?

Old: Make More Money

NEW: Be Worth More Money

It's not about what you make but what you keep. And ultimately about what you are building towards your financial freedom. You want your money to work for you vs. you working for money. Catch two great books on this from Robert Kiyosaki, Rich Dad, Poor Dad, and The Cash Flow Quadrant.

Old: A few, reliable real estate related business resources

NEW: A large, more varied strategic team

Focus on people who you can GIVE business to and you'll soon find they are sending you business. There are many people interested in the same demographic base as you are. Team up with a massage therapist, a car salesperson... The Coachu Worksheet, Team 100 will stimulate your thinking. A challenge: Add 5 people every month this year to your team.

Old: Work Harder

NEW: Work Smarter

Doubling the number of hours and actions is not the only way to double results. New strategies & thinking will yield ways to be dramatically more effective. Key to this is to have a strong PERSONAL foundation with reserves of energy & time, connected to values that really are important to you. Work on YOU first and the production will naturally flow.

Old: Lone Ranger Syndrome

NEW: Support Structure

Strong, independent, self-disciplined people often are unwilling to delegate and seek out support. They like doing it alone and know no one can do it as perfectly as they can. The superstars of 2000, know that they can accomplish more by focusing on their brilliance and their gifts. They budget for their education and for support structures that enable their focus to be on what they do best. Having a business coach is a way many are finding focus, accountability and inspiration.

As you begin this new century, shifting your focus from the what to the who will bring a set of new eyes. What old thinking is keeping you where you are?

"Discovery consists of seeing what everybody has seen and thinking what nobody has thought," says Albert Szent-Gyorgyi.

Get with the new century and have some FUN with new, and, even, outrageous strategies for 2000!
