Who Pays If A Home Inspection Fails?

Question: We made an offer on a home and paid for a structural inspection. The home did not pass. Shouldn't the owner pay for the structural inspection?

Answer: No. Unless you have a provision in the sale agreement requiring the owner to make such a payment, the cost of an inspection is your obligation.

The fact that the house did or did not "pass" is not the issue. A service was performed and that service helped you gain a better understanding of the property and its condition.
