Your accusation is that there isn't any journalistic integrity in the real estate industry. While I won't defend our competitors, it's interesting to me that you make the claim that Realty Times stories are all about advertisers. Let me address that with a couple of points.
First, we are the only real estate news service that publishes all original feature content. And that means we do have some discretion in what we choose to publish. However, it is not practical to write exclusively about advertisers as you claim. We should be so lucky to have enough advertisers that we can write only about them. Our sheer volume of stories compared to the numbers of advertisers disproves your point. We mention advertisers when they are newsworthy, because we are a news service.
By the same token, it makes no sense to avoid companies simply because they are advertisers. How do you think we get the capital to write original content that you read for free? Advertisers are precious and deserve any strokes we can give them, especially in areas of the site that are free of charge. If you were an advertiser, you'd be very pleased with how you're treated on Realty Times. But if you aren't an advertiser, you would also be pleased, which brings us to my second point.
In our sites of the day, as well as in our editorials, we give plenty of companies a lot of free press. How come we don't get any points from you for that?
The story you are using to post your rant against news organizations is a perfect example. Neither Homestore nor the two virtual tour companies mentioned in the story are advertisers on Realty Times. So what did we get by writing about them? Certainly not a check in the mail.
Does that make us any more noble in your eyes?
