Bad Agent

Some think this agent is the exception, seems more like the norm to me. Shows in-house listings first, claims to be a buyers agent but works for a firm representing sellers, does not preview homes (most Realtors have a nice response about how it's the clients best interest to have the buyers do their previewing for them, this is called self-justification), taking days to return calls, never having time to sit and talk with the client, always too busy. This is the norm for Realtors these days.
What else could the buyer have done? Did she call references? Past clients, current clients, other Realtors she's worked with?? Did she ask how many hours a week this agent worked? Did she ask how many active clients she had? Did she ask if she got paid more for selling an in-office listing? Did she ask what percentage of her clients were buyers and what percentage sellers? Did she thoroughly outline the agents duties in the buyer agreement, or just the buyers?
Not only is this Realtor the norm, but this consumer is the norm. Why in the world people make 3,6 or 7 month commitments to unqualified Realtors, without checking references or clarifying responsibilities with a part-time buyer agent (and I use that term loosely) for the largest investment of their life is beyond me. I am willing to bet that 90+% of buyers out there are still using traditional Realtors under the guise of being a 'buyers agent' when they actually have a vested interest in selling particualr homes over others AND references are NEVER checked! Never!
