Response To: Should You Pay Sellers for Listings? (Blanche Evans - 09/22/2000)

"PAY" for a listing?

I can't believe what I'm reading. We should go around with a wad of money in our pockets to pay Sellers to list their homes?

Maybe we should try it....right after plumbers, mechanics, lawyers, etc., try it first to see how it works!

This proposal forgets that WE are eventually being paid to DO THE WORK to market the property. "Mr. Seller, you pay us, and WE will run around and market, show, and advertise your property."
What is being said here is, "Mr. Seller, we know you can do this yourself, but if I wave $500 in your face, will you let me do it? "But could you wait until I pay my car payments, insurance payments, cell phone bill, beeper bill, etc., etc., before I lay out the money to you? We really can't allow another sucessful FSBO in the neighborhood."

What happens if you have three or four listings, and the market drops overnight? Your out $2,000, which is not refundable.

Next,t someone out in Fly-Over country will recommend that we should let Sellers live in our homes after the Closing, or we should pay for their hotel bill, if their other house isn't ready yet.....

Gimme a break.....!
