Response To: Is Real Estate Ready For Term Licensing? (Peter G. Miller - 02/15/2000)

'Big Broker' says NO WAY...

I agree completely... but be prepared for a long hard battle that will make the 'buyer agency' fight look like a mud wrestling match!

I'm a full-time ABR, Buyer's Agent, & have been in the biz 25 months (seems like a lifetime) & have just completed my brokers classes... I will sit for the WA state exam at the end of this month, 2/00.

I believe 'term limits' would better serve the public & the full-time professional agent, however, I don't believe many of our salespeople brothers & sisters will rally behind such a proposal. Afterall, the path of least resistance, the status quo, is the easisest path to follow.

Even if you could sell 'term limits' to our rank & file brothers & sisters I doubt the voice would be loud enough to be heard over the self serving whines & cries of 'Big Broker' & there lobbyists.

One only needs to look at the fight for buyer's rights & agency to fully appreciate how self serving and entrenched 'Big Broker' is.

As pessimistic as I may sound about the likelyhood of 'term limits' in the near future I believe it is a worthy cause and I would be proud to enlist in such an endeavor.

Thanks,
Detlef Dilbeck, ABR
