Response To: More Studies The NAR Could Do (Blanche Evans - 05/11/2001)

Time and Responsibility
Posted By: Sam Valenti - 05/11/2001 11:15 AM

I believe that the structure of the NAR is broke and needs fixing. Real structural change at NAR seems to be the equivalent of thinking the unthinkable. And yet, without structural change, the foresight to provide the kinds of useful research called for in this article is unlikely. In my view, we as agents are increasingly asked to choose between the status quo and something worse. Who can catalyze the NAR to change? Most brokers seem to be mesmerized into pathologically short attention spans due to the acceleration of technology and appear only to offer short-horizon perspectives which is the equivalent in hyperculture of being frozen in place.

I believe that our real estate futures are largely about thinking the unthinkable. To do so will not only free us from the established trends, but set us on a new trajectory. Adopting design/visioning approaches will make order out of chaos and provide a variety of far-sighted sustainable real estate futures.

The shorter time becomes resulting from the pace of change, the greater the responsibility becomes for making correct decisions. Time is running out for NAR.
