Response To: Can A Union Help Fight Lowered Commissions? (Blanche Evans - 07/03/2001)

Unions Welcome

Real Estate Agents have mostly been unable to find ways to organize for their own best interests. In my opinion, NAR does little to represent the interests of agents. It seems to be primarily a broker organization, supported by agent dues. The concept of, "No Taxation Without Representation," is clearly at the heart of American idealism. NAR has clearly created a vacuum and unionism will likely, at least partially, fill that vacuum. It is a welcome idea because it creates a counterweight to those large business modelers whose visions include low paid agent employees as a means to generate wealth. My crystal ball does not see large scale unionism in the American real estate future, but it's appearance on the horizon does change the strategy of the game.
