You raise a good issue.
I am not a tax authority, but for what it may be worth, I would offer these ideas.
In the case of Habitat, there is no interest to deduct because there is no interest. Habitat is a chairty and thus would not pay an income tax anyway.
In the case of Manzil, their web site says there may be a tax deduction. I am not sufficiently familiar with their program to comment and would suggest that anyone interested is best advised to contact a tax professional for details.
