Can A Union Help Fight Lowered Commissions?

Canadian Idealism Too

Sam --

Thanks for your note.

You're right, historically most industry groups have been broker-oriented rather than oriented toward salespeople. That's not surprising since a brokerage license allows a holder to deal directly with the public while an agent's license requires working under the authority of a broker. Brokers tend to be in business longer and have larger incomes than agents.

As to >>>The concept of, "No Taxation Without Representation," is clearly at the heart of American idealism<<< just for fun, I would mention that the unionizing in question is taking place in Canada.

I think it will be very difficult to unionize agents because there is tremendous turnover each year and there are several hundred thousand small work sites.

But, let's say your office was being unionized. What would you want from your broker, are the dollars available to support such requests, and could a union brokerage charge more than a non-union shop?

All the best.
