same attorney's office?

Brilliant question! Absolutely not. Beside's that would be a conflict of interest on the law firms side to take on both cases. However, it would not only be a conflict of interest but in the case of a law firm and a law suit... only one side will win the case. So why in the world would a law firm take on something in which they know they will lose (at least on one side). It would not be worth the effort or their reputation. Law firms are out to win their cases. and make money, of course. But if they lose their cases they lose their clients and in turn the firm comes crashing down. Right? In the case of the real estate profession; if a buyer comes to me because someone else in my office listed a home that they want to buy, and if I write the offer and the whole deal is done in-house (within the same brokerage) Then everyone wins. My broker gets paid (on both sides), I get my buyer's the home of their dreams after negotiating the best deal for them and the sellers get thier home sold with a contract that is agreeable to thier price and terms. Everyone is happy and because it was in-house, the entire deal went smoothly. The communication level was far better and questions and concerns get answered quickly. The deal files on time. I do see your point. Each attorney has their own client but also works under or with a firm. Just like we do in real estate. However, many buyer's in this area do exactly that type of thing by insisting on calling the listing agent of a home that they want to buy. Obviously, every profession is somewhat different. You posed an excellent question that really made me think. Thanks. Are you an attorney? Mindy
