Response To: Should Buyer Brokers Charge Set Fees? (Peter G. Miller - 05/23/2000)

Please consider the following point
Posted By: Lois M. Hekker - 05/23/2000 07:52 AM

Dear Peter:

Your article about Buyer's Broker's Fees is excellent! We have been on the
same page for years.

However, please consider the following point:

When did a competitor set the value of another's service?

On the MLS playing field, the listing brokerage has pre-determined the value of another MLS member's service who brings the buyer to the transaction.

Does a dentist run to the dentist next door and ask how much he charges/ or should charge for a root canal?

Obviously not! Then why does a listing brokerage even think that they have the right
to determine the value of another professional brokerage's service?

In my opinion, the MLS is a membership of competitors. It's purpose is to disclose to
all members the availability of properties. It's purpose is not to pre-determine the value of another member's service to it's client or customer.

Have a sunny day, Peter!
