Response To: Is Realtor.com Dipping from Its Own Well Too Often? (Blanche Evans - 03/07/2000)

Scoffing industry observer
Posted By: Jim Lee - 03/08/2000 12:06 AM

I wonder if the "industry observer" has ever had to make a living selling residential real estate?

My guess is no.

I realize HomeStore/Realtor.com is not in business to provide me free or low-cost services but If I'm to be a customer of theirs I don't want them competing against me either.

What they pay for their positioning is their business but it's a concrete fact that if the National Association of Realtor's were not in partnership with them and providing the one million plus listings they display then they would have been an also ran long ago instead of the number one homes website in the world.

Come to think of it lots of observers scoff. It's easy to scoff and pontificate if you're not in the battle, sort of like football fans sitting up in the stands quarterbacking.

Easy to make the calls after the play is over and you're not getting your head kicked in down on the field.
