Location Characteristics: North Port, originally called North Port Charlotte, had its beginnings in 1959 as a retirement community. Today, it is the fourth fastest growing municipality in the state and has a flourishing youth population. North Port accounts for nearly 80% of the growth in Sarasota County schools. Low impact fees for affordable housing and the wide availabiity of recreational opportunities are two major reasons for the influx of young families. Offering something for everyone, Sabal Trace and Duck Key provide lovely developments of upscale homes. For the equistrian lover, North Port Estates offers parcels of up to five acres. North Port's proximity to Warm Mineral Springs Spa - thought by some to be the original Fountain of Youth - is a natural draw for thousands of visitors annually. Little Salt Springs in North Port is considered an archeological treasure.

In addition to its state-of-the art Performing Arts Center, 144 miles of waterways, a wealth of civic, service and social clubs, golf, tennis, bike paths and 25 churches, North Port is home to a new industrial park as well as a new WalMart and Home Depot. It is also well located to larger metropolitan areas such as the Tampa Bay area which is 60 miles to the North and Fort Myers 40 miles to the south.

With its 77 square miles of land mass, an 8000 acre state forest within its limits and a current seasonal population of only 17,000, North Port is a thriving community on the move - a little city with big potential.
