Location Characteristics: Indianapolis is the capital of the state of Indiana, and the county seat of Marion County, Indiana. As of the 2010 United States Census, the city's population is 829,718.[1] It is Indiana's largest city and, as of the 2010 U.S. Census, is the 12th largest city in the U.S., the second largest city in the Midwest (behind Chicago), the second most populous state capital (after Phoenix, Arizona), and the most populous state capital east of the Mississippi River. Indianapolis is also one of the fastest growing regions in the United States. Forbes lists Indianapolis as one of the Top 10 Best Downtowns in America for 2011. That only adds to the achievements for the city. Indianapolis' hosting of the Super Bowl Forty Six was a complete success. Drawing the largest crowds ever for NFL events. The city received praise from around the country for the organization and quality of the events. This results in increased convention and business activities for the city.
For much of its history, Indianapolis has oriented itself around government and industry, particularly manufacturing. Today, Indianapolis has a much more diversified economy, contributing to the fields of education, health care, and finance. Greater Indianapolis has seen moderate growth among U.S. cities,[4] especially in nearby Hamilton, Hendricks, and Johnson counties.[5] The population of the metropolitan statistical area is estimated at 1,834,672, making it the 33rd-largest in the U.S. The combined statistical area population of Indianapolis is 2,035,327, the 23rd-largest in the U.S
Of special interest to families are the Indianapolis Zoo, with it's open format and an award winning program for encouraging species survival; the Children Museum, which is the largest children's museumin the world and filled with exciting and educational as well as fun exhibits. Other attractions are the Museum of Art, The Eiteljorg Western Museum, White River State park and so much more!
Indianapolis ranked high on both stability and affordability. The downtown area has been revitalized and is home to 10 sports teams, including the Indianapolis Colts football team and the Indiana Pacers basketball team.
