The Lawrence market is a sub market of the Kansas City, KS Metropolitan area. Lawrence is home to Kansas University and approximately 25,000 college students. The market thrives regardless of the condition of the economy. Many students will purchase housing instead of renting long term. The biggest obstacle to purchasing at this time is the condition of a lack of financing for parents as investors. This condition pushes rental prices. To accommodate, local investors have added hundreds of rental units, thereby creating a surplus of rental units. Douglas County adjoins Johnson, on the east, Leavenworth County on the north, Shawnee County on the west and Franklin county to the south.
