Overall the Portland Maine residential housing market posted strong 2009 results with the median home price clocking in at 209K compared with 219K in 2008, a drop of approximately 5%. Total transaction volume was off about 9% in 2009, but the 2nd half of the year saw significant increases thanks in large part to the housing tax credit and low interest rates. After a slow holiday season many first time home buyers have entered the market making the conditions as strong as they have been in well over 2 years. A special thanks to the MREIS for providing the housing statistics for this report.
