There are many golf courses to choose from, both public and private; spectator sports; and not one but two major rivers flow through Portland. This means that water sports such as fishing and water-skiing are big here.
Nike is headquartered in the area and Intel has a major operation near Portland. And don't forget Tektronix, the original `high-tech' company.
