Quality of schools and quality of living. Ranked #3 int he area and state. Lots of outdoor recreation closeby. Convenient location to Lake Murray, Interstate and downtown, University, Shopping and more.
We know this area very well, we live here. My daughter Corinne graduated from Dutch Fork High, while Kirstin graduated from Irmo High. Both schools are excellent and rank highest in Columbia and SC. We relocated here ourselves 1991 from Atlantic City N.J. Our Office is conveniently and centrally located to reach all areas in Irmo and Columbia. ZIP Codes: 29212, 29063

Approximate Location Boundaries: Broad River, Lake Murray, Harbison State Forest

Location Characteristics: Dutch Fork is a popular area and it is growing at a steady pace. The area still gives you that somewhat rural community feeling when you drive around. On many side streets you pass fields with gardens and green spaces, cows or goats. Beautiful hardwood trees, close to Lake Murray for fishing and boating. Lex/Rich # 5 Schools have National Blue Ribbon winner schools. Spring and Fall seasons are beautiful and comfortable. Short summers and winters. And the winters are fairly mild.
Many residents like the natural settings most homes have. Some developments retain as many trees as possible for the most part. Some neighborhoods have sidewalks, community pools & more. Dutch Fork was created by German Settlers.
Only about 10 miles from downtown.

US News reported recently (per The State Paper 9/30/09) that Columbia is in the 10 best affordable places to retire to. They said that "Retirees want a more diverse set of opportunities and they can find that in a university town".
US News said it "thought out places with low cost of living and reasonable housing prices that still offered access to the services and amenities that people should look for in an ideal retirement spot"
