Georgetown has lost 426 residents since the 2000 census (8,950 vs. 8,524 in 2007). A lot of the population growth in Georgetown County has been towards the beach (Pawleys Island, Litchfield, and Murrells Inlet). The most stable properties are in the Historic District of the city (a 4 X 8 block grid) - see Antebellum homes below. New subdivisions with views of Winyah Bay (South Island Plantation and Craven's Grant) will add 700 to 800 homesites to the community. This has the potential to bring an upside to growth in Georgetown.
ZIP Codes: 29440, 29442 Location Characteristics: Established in 1732, Georgetown is South Carolina's third oldest city. The oak-lined avenues of this "little Charleston" city boast group tour treasures for visitors. The city is alive with history and activity. The Kaminnski House and the Rice Museum complement a concentration of 50+ antebellum mansions, a few of which are charming bed and breakfast inns. The riverfront(Harborwalk) overlooks the Sampit River and is lined with restaurants, galleries, antique shops and specialty stores. Dining, shopping and scenery reign supreme. Georgetown is conveniently located between Myrtle Beach and Charleston, SC.
