As of January 31, 2012, unit sales on single family homes are up from 109 YTD in 2011 to 118 YTD in 2012 for an 8% INCREASE over this same period last year. The total volume of sales increased from $35,241,832, one year ago to $37,397,523 for a 6% increase over the same period last year. The average sales price is $316,928, compared to $323,319 a year ago, for a 1% decrease. Interest rates are rising slightly between 3.5% and 4.0%, which is still as low as we have seen in a while, and so it is an awesome time to buy right now. One reason to buy now instead of wait, is because when the interest rate rises, your buying power drops. Home prices remain steady, and there seems to be a lot of activity. We are selling homes. Location Characteristics: Anchorage is surrounded by the mountains to the East, and the Cook Inlet to the West. The air and army base are towards the north end of town, and there are a few communities to the north that are a very short commute to the bases.
