Location Characteristics: Chandler, population 236,000, is a great place to live and work. It has three of the top High Schools in the country, ranking high both scholastically and in athletics.
Two Community Colleges, Chandler- Gilbert and Mesa Community Colleges, both nearby, offer numerous courses for young and old alike. Arizona State University is just minutes away in Tempe.
The Chandler library has three branches, two of which are partnered with Hamilton and Basha High Schools.
The tax base is very stable because of several large industries - Intel, Motorola combined have 5 plants, Bashas' Grocery Stores headquarters and art museum and lots of support businesses. Over 75 percent of Chandler's 30,000 manufacturing employees are in high-tech fields.
Chandler is located only minutes from Sky Harbor Airport, which is accessible from Chandler by 3 freeways. And theater goers can enjoy any of 23 major performances at the Chandler Theater for the Arts. Intel sponsors several free events at the Theater during the summer months.
Chandler Regional Hospital is a 210-bed hospital that serves the East Valley. It is well known for the quality of its services - particularly its Family Birth Center - and for its community outreach.
This rapidly growing city is home to the best of the Valley's luxury suburban lifestyle.
Posh spas and resorts, luxurious boutiques and convenient national chain stores all near the new Chandler Fashion Center are juxtaposed with the cultural attractions of historic Hotel San Marcos, the Arizona Railway Museum and the new Chandler Center for the Arts.
In 1891, Dr. Alexander John Chandler built a ranch on 80 acres of land, building canal systems that enabled the development of agriculture and the establishment the town of Chandler. Cotton was the region's biggest crop, but farmers also raised cattle, sheep and ostriches, which are celebrated every March at the Chandler Ostrich Festival.
Chandler's grown from 30,000 residents in 1980 to more than 176,581 in 2000, and with that, it developed eight golf courses and traded an agricultural past for a technological and service-based future.
Chandler is about 20 miles southeast of downtown Phoenix, adjacent to Mesa and Tempe, and part of the Chandler Unified School District.
