ZIP Codes: 94501, and, 94502 Approximate Location Boundaries: Island on San Francisco Bay between Oakland and San Francisco
Location Characteristics: What's not to like about this picturesque, historic island on San Francisco Bay? Visitors marvel at the small town aura of Alameda. It's a mere ferry or express bus ride to San Francisco, but if one must drive, it's approximately 13 miles away, separated by the Bay Bridge. The island is truly picturesque, with its abundance of Victorians, Tudors, Colonial Revivals, Craftsman and myriad styles of bungalows. Shopping is getting better, as its Alameda Town Centre which is located right by the beach brings more retailers like Bed Bath & Beyond, Old Navy, TJMaxx, Border's and yes, even Trader Joe's.
One has a choice of several marinas (it's an island, after all). This is a bike-friendly town. So friendly that during the many community events around town, BikeAlameda even offers valet bike parking!
One of the biggest attractions of this wonderful town is its temperate climate --- when fog rolls in over San Francisco, we watch with glee because we Alamedans are basking in the sun.
